Uses for RFID
In today’s world RFID tags are plentiful, some of their many uses include:
- Animals can have identification tags inserted under their skin for identification.
- Anti-theft RFID tags attached to merchandise in stores has been around for many years now.
- Passports, RFID tags are being implemented in many countries passports now. In addition to typical information, the information could also contain more detailed travel history.
- Lap scoring, can be used in competetive sports such as car racing and cycling to time laps and calculate final placings. Participants wear a RFID tag and pass a scanning device each lap.
Potential uses:
- Replacing barcodes, as tags become smaller and cheaper, they could replace barcodes completely. Imagine pushing your shopping trolley through a scanner that totals the amount for the teller as you pass through?
