Radio-frequency identification commonly known in the information industry as RFID is a small tag (as small as 0.05 x 0.05 millimeters) which is used to store data on, similar to a barcode or magnetic strip on a bank card.
RFID tags are used to provide identification for the particualar object they are attached to. Therefore they can be 'read' or scanned to retrive the infomation held on the tag.
Some tags can even be read from several meters away and beyond the line of sight of the reader.
